Alejandro Alguacil has become the new General Secretary of the Socialist Youth of Lanzarote, a youth political organization linked to the PSOE, after receiving unanimous support from the extraordinary congress held on Saturday morning.

Alguacil takes over from the previous secretary, José Antonio González Pérez, councilor of the Socialist Group in the Arrecife City Council, who has been in charge of JSL for the last four years and who has reached the maximum age allowed by the youth organization, but who will continue as a member of the Socialist Party.

The congress took place at the PSOE headquarters in Arrecife and was attended by PSOE members such as Marcial Martín, president of the same; Ada Santana, deputy of the Congress; Alfredo Mendoza, local secretary of the PSOE of Arrecife and María Dolores Corujo, Insular Secretary and Deputy in the Congress.

Alguacil will be accompanied in the new Executive by Wilfredo Toribio in the Secretariat of organization and municipalism; Sheila Rodríguez, in the Secretariat of equality; Daniela Hernández, in the Secretariat of ecological transition and education and José Carlos Roger, in the LGTBI and Social Networks Secretariat.

Alguacil stressed in his speech that he assumes this challenge with enthusiasm and commitment, noting that "our youth is the engine of change towards a more just, egalitarian and prosperous future for all. Today, I assume the challenge of leading this extraordinary group of people committed to social transformation and collective well-being."

"We have important challenges ahead of us: education, employment, decent housing, environmental sustainability and equal opportunities, without forgetting the tourist saturation that we are suffering today on our island. Together, with unity and determination, we will face these challenges and seek innovative solutions that improve the quality of life of all the young people on our island," he concluded.
