The future Cabo Pedro urban park, a central piece of land in the La Vega neighborhood, already has a draft of the terms for the ideas competition for its bidding, prepared by the Lanzarote College of Architects commissioned by the Biosphere Reserve department of the Cabildo of Lanzarote.

In a meeting held recently, the president Oswaldo Betancort, the councilor of the Biosphere Reserve, Samuel Martín, the deputy mayor of Arrecife, Echedey Eugenio, the councilor of Urbanism, Maciot Cabrera, and personnel from the Reserve office learned about the main lines of the intervention, raised from the neighborhood contributions obtained last year in a participatory process.

From the debate held among the people attending the conference, the main demands of the neighborhood were extracted, such as a regulated parking area, a green recreation space, and the recovery of the mill, the cistern, and the quarry as key elements.

The president, Oswaldo Betancort, highlighted from this experience "a form of governance that we want to promote with all the municipalities, based on collaboration between the administrations and the citizens" and announced that the bidding process for the presentation of projects will begin this year.

The councilor of the Biosphere Reserve, Samuel Martín, expressed his satisfaction for the collaborative work and the importance that this park will have for the quality of life of the neighbors; and the capital's deputy mayor recalled that this comprehensive intervention will result in a better connection of La Vega with the historic center and the commercial area of Arrecife.

The consultation process was carried out last September and after meeting and cataloging all the public opinions and contributions, the information was transferred to the College of Architects, responsible for the elaboration of the specifications for an ideas competition that will be announced shortly. The initiative responds to the interest of the first Corporation and the City Council of Arrecife to transform the surroundings of the Molino de Cabo Pedro for its improvement, a plot of about 8,000 square meters that will become an urban park.
