The differences between the two tourism business associations are undeniable, but this Monday the boards of directors of the Lanzarote Federation of Tourism Entrepreneurs (Aetur) and the Association of Hotel Entrepreneurs of the Island (Asolan) sat down to analyze the situation of the sector and convey their concerns to public administrations. The business associations will ask the Cabildo to "unblock" the tourism leisure projects that are on the table. The president of Aetur, Gerardo Fontes, said that golf courses, nautical stations and all the complementary offer, which helps the Island to get out of the competitive lag, needs fewer obstacles and greater speed. "The idea is to be able to reach an agreement that allows us to straighten out the situation of the economic engine of the Island," Fontes said at the end of the meeting.

Weakness in promotion

Fontes stressed that this is the first time that the boards of directors of both business organizations have met to argue their requests before the president of the Cabildo and the departments of Tourism and Territorial Policy. The meeting with the First Island Corporation does not yet have a date, but the business associations are also urged to explain why they maintain that the tourism promotion of the Island abroad needs a greater degree of efficiency. The entrepreneurs propose the professionalization of the promotion either through the Tourism Foundation of Lanzarote or the Tourist Board. The business associations foresee a new meeting between them to discuss two fundamental issues: the possible legalization of tourist villas and the impact that the 'all-inclusive' tourist modality has on Lanzarote.
