About 200 secondary and high school students demonstrated this Wednesday in front of the Pancho Lasso School to denounce the cuts in Education. Students from several institutes in Arrecife approached this point around 10:00 a.m. In addition, they also marched along Avenida de El Reducto around 11:30 a.m. in protest and reached the Island Education Directorate.
"We want to claim what is obvious, that many of us are going to stay here, in Lanzarote, without having the opportunity to continue studying, even though we are capable of doing so. And all this, because of the cuts that the Government is making," protested Estefanía Hernández, from the IES Agustín Espinosa.
The students do not understand that politicians "have exorbitant salaries" and that the only solution to the crisis in this country is to "cut in Health and Education." "That is precisely why we are here today claiming," said this demonstrator.
The people of Lanzarote are aware that their demonstration is "smaller" than those taking place in the peninsula, where the protests have been called for the first time by the Spanish Confederation of Associations of Parents and Mothers (Ceapa).
The protests in educational centers will be especially important this Thursday, as Ceapa has asked parents not to take their children to schools during this day of strike. In Lanzarote, students still do not know what the next mobilization will be. "Depending on the result of this Wednesday's demonstration, we will be calling new mobilizations. If we all agree to continue, we will continue," said Estefanía Hernández.
