A tropical whale (Balaenoptera edeni), also known as Bryde's whale, has been spotted very close to the shore in the town of Órzola, in Haría, this past weekend. This species can measure between 18 and 20 meters in length.

The animal, a type of whale from the baleen whale family, was observed on the morning of last Saturday, September 20, swimming on the northern coast.

The images, taken from a recreational boat, allowed to see a jet of water vapor coming out of the sea and then the whale coming to the surface.

The tropical whale is a protected species, categorized as least concern by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN).

"A unique moment that shows the greatness of our sea and the natural wealth that surrounds us," said the councilor of Haría, Evelia García, after sharing the video on social networks, where she took the opportunity to remember that "taking care of our environment is the best way for scenes like these to continue to be part of the municipality of Haría and Lanzarote."
