Tito Perera's proclamation last Saturday marked the official start of the San Bartolomé festivities, which will conclude on August 24. The event began at 9:00 p.m., with the San Bartolomé municipal theater completely full for the occasion. The mayoress, María Dolores Corujo, opened the event, inviting participation and enjoyment of everything programmed for these days of festivities.
With endearing words, she addressed the proclaimer, whom she defined as "a man of the people, strong and honest, who has made folklore, with his rectitude and humility, part of this icon that is Guadarfía." She also highlighted that it is "an honor to have him among the ranks of local, island and regional folklore, because with great feeling he translates quality into quality through music."
After the initial intervention of the mayoress, it was the turn of the proclaimer, Tito Perera, who is "a social and musical reference in San Bartolomé." Already in 1965 he played with a group joined by young people who danced from the Agustín Espinosa Institute, and in which he was accompanied by Manuel Betancort, Juan Quintero, Braulio Betancort and Lito Betancort. He was part of Los Campesinos, and for 34 years he has been a very important part of the Agrupación Folklórica Guadarfía, one of the mainstays of traditional music, which has toured important stages, but which has its cradle in San Bartolomé.

Finally, El Pavón put the finishing touch to the day with good Canarian music.
