Three dance couples from Lanzarote have secured a place in the Artistic Dance final at the XXIII European Ballroom Dancing Championship 2012. All three will compete in the 12 to 18 age category of this championship, which will be held in Torremolinos on February 27th.
One of the selected couples is formed by Aarón and Alba, who will also be representing the archipelago in the Combined Dance Waltz, Tango, and Paso Doble final, a right they earned by being crowned champions of the Canary Islands in the regional competition held in La Oliva (Fuerteventura) in July 2011. The couple is intensifying rehearsals for the European Championship in order to deliver an excellent performance.
The dancers have had national and European prominence since 2009, with titles in various modalities (a total of 17 in two years), so it is not the first time they have assumed a responsibility of this magnitude, according to reports from the Yaiza Council, from where they congratulate the couple.
Additionally, two other Lanzarote couples will participate in this championship, in the 12 to 18 age category. This is the case of the couple formed by Cristhopher and Davinia, runners-up in Salsa and Rock and Roll of the Canary Islands, as well as finalists in the 2011 European Championship of Retro Dance, Paso Doble, and Rock and Roll.
The other couple is formed by Egoitz and Athenea, who are presenting for the third consecutive year to this championship, also being selected in Artistic Dance, a category in which they were proclaimed runners-up last year. This couple has achieved other awards, being runners-up in the Canary Islands in Rock and Rock, third in retro dances (waltz, tango, and paso doble) at the Canarian and international level, and also third in Cha cha cha and Salsa in the Community of Madrid,
