"Dear Wise Men, I have behaved very well this year and that is why I want you to bring me...?" This is how almost all the letters that the children write to the Wise Men begin. And this year, it was not going to be less. Thousands of letters have already been sent to the Far East. The goal is for these to become reality, although for this it is necessary to cover up a little the small mischief that has been committed throughout the year.
Melchor, Gaspar and Baltasar have already set foot on Conejero soil. They have done so with their traditional walk through the Fire Mountains, a prelude to the typical Three Kings Parades that will take place on the island throughout Friday. The illusion and expectation grow by the moment and nerves begin to surface, not only in the little ones but also in the adults who excitedly await the arrival of Their Majesties from the East.
A magical night that begins with this traditional walk, where Their Majesties from the East have spread smiles and happiness on the back of a camel. Later, the Wise Men will celebrate the traditional Three Kings Parade that, as every year, will travel through some of the main streets of all the municipalities of Lanzarote.
Thus, at four o'clock they will begin to visit all the towns of Teguise and are expected to arrive in La Villa around nine in the evening. At half past five in the afternoon the Kings will pass through Tinajo. At that same time, they will land by helicopter in Arrieta and travel in a parade through all the towns of the municipality until finishing in Haría at half past eight. To San Bartolomé and Arrecife, the Wise Men will arrive at six. In the capital city they will be accompanied by a batucada. Their Majesties will travel through the main streets of Tías at seven in the afternoon and at eight those of Yaiza.
After this traditional parade, all that remains is to have dinner and go to sleep early because, as everyone knows, "Tonight the Kings are coming!". With these words in the background, many Conejero children will go to bed, hoping to wake up the next morning and see many gifts in some corner of their house. Packages and packages that will carry, on many occasions, the name of all the members of the family, although as is natural, the most fortunate are the little ones, but above all those who have been good throughout the year.
Santa Claus also visits Lanzarote
Despite the illusion of the Night of the Kings, customs are also changing little by little on the island of the Volcanoes and the American Santa Claus is beginning to have a presence in Lanzarote, taking a little ground from the Wise Men. The reason is that Santa Claus also gives gifts at Christmas and does so much earlier than Their Majesties from the East. This year, some children have already been able to play and enjoy the presents that Santa Claus has distributed on the island.
Despite this, the Wise Men are still the protagonists of Christmas, especially for children, and will continue to spread magic and illusion, since the main presents that are received on these dates are still those brought by these three Kings from the East.
Already on Saturday morning, the faces of the Conejero children, and those who are not so children, will express happiness, surprise, disappointment and even sadness for the gifts, or the non-gifts, that they have received. Afterwards, it will be time to wait another year for Their Majesties the Wise Men to set foot on Lanzarote soil again. Meanwhile, some will enjoy their presents and others will make amends so that on the next Night of the Kings, they will really bring what is desired.
