Despite being a working day, the hermitage of Las Nieves received this Monday, from the first hour of the morning, dozens of devotees of the Virgin, who arrived from different parts of the island to participate in the masses in her honor and in the subsequent procession.
After the celebration of the two Pilgrim Masses at 8 and 10 in the morning, the largest number of parishioners concentrated at noon, the time at which the Solemn Eucharist began, presided over by the archpriest of Lanzarote and parish priest of San Ginés, Miguel Hernández, who was assisted by four priests. In the musical part, Professor Javier Díaz accompanied each of the songs chosen for the celebration with the piano.
Miguel Hernández was in charge of preaching the homily with a rich historical content about the apparitions of the Virgin under the invocation of Our Lady of Las Nieves, who chose the mountain of Teguise in her apparition to a shepherd, who was entrusted to build her house there.
After the Solemn Eucharist, the procession proceeded. Outside, next to the hermitage, hundreds of faithful and civil and military authorities were waiting for the Virgen de las Nieves, who made the honor guard. The Teguise Music Band, directed by Professor Tito González, also paid tribute to her. At the end, applause and cheers were heard to the Virgin who, carried on her shoulder, made the usual route of each year to later return to her hermitage.
Next Saturday, August 10, and as the end of the festivities, the Holy Mass will be celebrated, which will be resumed every Saturday, at the usual time of 5:00 p.m. once the festivities are over.
