The Citizen Security and Intervention Unit of the Local Police of Arrecife has urged citizens not to use chat applications to warn of the presence of controls and radars on the roads of Lanzarote. "They do a disservice to security," warn the authorities.
For years, there have been various groups in applications such as WhatsApp that alert to the controls that the police carry out on the roads of Lanzarote. The USCI, in this case, refers to the existence of a chat that has a total of 7,232 users in the Telegram application, which, according to the police force, "prevents the detention of offenders, criminals, or reckless drivers."
This practice is not currently a crime, but on numerous occasions, both the National Police and the Traffic Civil Guard have warned that notifying drivers of the existence of a police control "compromises the security of the entire citizenry."
Despite the handicap that the police have, due to the speed with which drivers warn of the police presence, the USCI assures that the Security Forces are doing everything possible to "try to guarantee security." "Please, do not collaborate in these groups. Do not risk your safety and that of everyone," add the Local Police of Arrecife.
