The president of the Cabildo, María Dolores Corujo, has reported on the intervention of the Military Emergency Unit (UME) carried out this Tuesday.

The operation deployed by the UME was made up of 32 soldiers who used a total of 12 vehicles for their movements and for the transport of material.

The UME, at the request of the president of the Cabildo, intervened in cinco minor centers (four in Arrecife and one in Tinajo); in the offices of Social Welfare of the Cabildo and those of Social Services of Arrecife, San Bartolomé and Playa Honda; in the premises of the Local Police of San Bartolomé and in the offices of Haría and Tahíche.

The president has expressed her satisfaction for the support received from the UME, as this is the fourth time that it has deployed its troops on the island. "From that day when we suffered the first contagion in a residence of the Cabildo and we knew that we had to do the impossible to prevent it from affecting the rest of the residents, the UME has been by our side."

"The work of the UME is being fundamental in our response to the coronavirus, it provides an extra security and reinforces the work that our people develop in those points that we consider most sensitive", Corujo explained.

"At this moment, when it seems that we are about to overcome the pandemic, it is when we have to redouble our efforts: We cannot afford a new outbreak. Now is when we need the UME the most and, above all, the sustained effort that the people of Lanzarote have been maintaining, together we will stop the coronavirus", the president concluded.
