El Almacén hosted this Friday the presentation of the twelfth edition of the Lanzarote International Film Festival, whose program will be dedicated to the world of fishing. The event will run from November 24 to December 3.
The Culture Councilor of the Cabildo de Lanzarote, Alberto Aguiar, expressed the weight that the Exhibition has been acquiring "in the cultural calendar of Lanzarote and that, over the years, has evolved into an event of national and international relevance." "In addition, the fact that the concept of this edition is fishing will allow us to relate to stories that are close and familiar to us," he added.
Aguiar also wanted to value "the Exhibition's desire to go beyond the cinemas to bring this different cinema to new generations, helping to establish their critical capacity through workshops with the youngest." Finally, he highlighted "the importance that the event has for Canarian filmmakers, giving public visibility to their work and offering them workshops with great professionals."
Fishing, part of the history of Lanzarote
Fishing arts are part of the before and now of the reality of many families in Lanzarote. For this reason, more than thirty films from all over the world have been chosen that have this important economic activity as their background. The Trasfoco section will take these cinematographic examples to five of the municipalities of Lanzarote, bringing the magic of cinema to many corners of the island.

Like other years, the Exhibition aims to connect cinema with its most immediate context through walks and excursions around the island, which on this occasion will revolve around the spaces of Lanzarote most related to fishing activity that will serve to illustrate the images projected on the screen with their physical context.
International relevance
The director of the Lanzarote International Film Festival, Javier Fuentes Feo, highlighted during the presentation the evolution towards the internationality of this cinematographic event. "The program that we have prepared could be seen in Madrid, London, Berlin or any major capital, the Exhibition has acquired relevance not only nationally, but internationally," he said.
The Official Section reflects this internationality with suggestions from all over the world, whose proposals try to delve into issues of social interest and analysis of the reality that surrounds us.
In addition, Javier Fuentes Feo, wanted to reflect the Exhibition's desire to continue promoting training experiences for young people and workshops for boys and girls, showing a cinema away from the most commercial spirit to the new generations. More than a thousand students from Lanzarote will pass through the Buñuel Room to be part of this experience.
Finally, the Exhibition once again offers specialized courses by high-level professionals in the film sector aimed at continuing to increase the training of professionals in Lanzarote.
The agenda of activities will end with the public deliberation of the jury. You can find the entire program on the page of the Culture area of the Cabildo de Lanzarote here.
