The SPEL “pulled the ears” of Vueling for the treatment it gave to the passengers of the canceled flight

Héctor Fernández states that the problem was generated because the island had "a very high occupancy" to relocate the passengers. "The places available in hotels were very scattered, and at very high prices that Vueling did not authorize."

The director of the Lanzarote Foreign Promotion Society, Héctor Fernández, has revealed that the entity "pulled Vueling's ears" for the treatment it gave to the passengers of the flight canceled on July 30. And it is that in addition to spending hours at the airport, until they were sent to a hotel at night, the next day they were made to change accommodation, after a new morning of uncertainty.

In this regard, Fernández has pointed out that what happened is a consequence of the island "working to the limit", and a situation like this, with a very high hotel occupancy, creates a serious problem for the affected tourists.

"A cancellation or delay, and the exceeding of crew hours, prevents departure and forces you to relocate passengers with very high occupancies", says the head of the SPEL, who assures that at that time he tried, together with the handling company, to find accommodation for those affected.

"The places available in hotels were very scattered, and at very high prices that Vueling did not authorize, so we had to pull their ear", explains Fernández.

The situation generated criticism from passengers, who in some cases took several days to leave the island and were going "from hotel to hotel", until the company relocated them on other flights.

Héctor Fernández emphasizes that episodes like this can affect the image of the island in terms of tourism, so he argues that they have to "minimize the damage caused."

"We have had to talk to Vueling, because we maintain very important agreements with them. They tell me that with so much volume and the daily operations of thousands of flights they have, something like this can happen", he concludes, insisting that it is necessary to reduce these damages.
