More than 900 people participated this Friday in the solidarity race organized by the CEIP Antonio Zerolo in favor of Calor y Café, which was supported by the Education and Sports councils of the Arrecife City Council. The day also served to remember that last November 20th was International Children's Day and the boys and girls have done so by performing the song "Children's Rights" by Unicef.
Among the participants, the Olympic runner José Carlos Hernández, the Paralympic athlete Lionel Morales and the Councilor for Education of the Arrecife City Council, Ascensión Toledo, joined the 672 schoolchildren, their families and the teachers and directors of the center. Together, they have run for a good cause, the collection of food for the most disadvantaged people.
The Councilor for Sports, Jacobo Lemes, also came to the school, who applauded the center's initiative and encouraged the little ones to be supportive, to participate and to practice sports activities.
This race, in aid of Calor y Café, is part of the activities carried out by the center within its Solidarity Project, and each of the participating schoolchildren has contributed the product assigned to their level (toiletries, tuna, cocoa, juices, sausages, milk and oil).
After the race, the Councilor for Education stressed the importance of the little ones being aware of the situation of the most disadvantaged groups. "It is necessary that both from the school and from the family itself, values such as solidarity are instilled in them and that they are aware that what they have done today with their contribution of food and their participation in this sports-solidarity activity, is very important because they collaborate and help many people who need it".
This solidarity meeting has also served to collaborate with the Association of Children with Cancer Pequeño Valiente, through a solidarity market where you could buy bracelets, mugs, notebooks, etc., from this association.
