The folklore of San Bartolomé experienced a historic day on Sunday morning. The municipality paid tribute, after 55 years, to the victory of the Ajei folk group at the Santander International Festival. There, the jury awarded them the highest score when they performed and danced one of the most significant pieces of Canarian folklore, "La Malagueña", which was performed by Marcial de León, 'Lero', one of the dancers most admired by all those who have preceded him, and the dancer known as 'Cesarita'. The municipality now has a sculpture that recalls this feat and commemorates this fundamental piece of Canarian folklore.
At 12:45 the protocol act began with the intervention of the Municipal Band, directed by Professor Juan Kenti Mauri. For about fifteen minutes they performed a magnificent and careful musical selection, compositions that are already part of the anthology to which, with very good success, they put their own stamp. They ended their performance with the popular pasodoble Islas Canarias.
Immediately afterwards, the mayoress of the municipality of San Bartolomé, María Dolores Corujo, addressed the numerous public, giving an exhaustive review of the history of "La Malagueña". At one point in her speech, she addressed Marcial de León
