The Norwegian community residing in Lanzarote celebrated the big day of their country this Tuesday, May 17th, with a celebration in Puerto del Carmen. The event featured flags of the Nordic country, music, a parade, and typical cuisine.
Norwegians are celebrating the 2002nd anniversary of their Constitution this year, which declared the country as an independent nation. Approximately 400 Norwegians reside in Lanzarote, although the population multiplies during the winter season, reaching 3,000. A high percentage of these Norwegian residents, practically 80%, choose the municipality of Tías to live in, while the vast majority of tourists from the Nordic country also choose Puerto del Carmen to spend their holidays, as explained by the Consistory of this municipality.

This fact was highlighted by the mayor of Tías, Pancho Hernández, during his speech at this event. Hernández took the opportunity to congratulate the Norwegians on their national day and expressed his gratitude to the community for "choosing the municipality of Tías to reside in".
Alongside the mayor were also present the first deputy mayor and Councilor for Tourism, Amado Vizcaíno, and the Councilor for Commerce, Nerea Santana, who shared with the Norwegian community the raising of the Norwegian, Spanish, and Canary flags, as well as the traditional parade and a typical Norwegian breakfast with herring, smoked salmon, curd porridge, and savory or smoked charcuterie.
