The new General Hospital building expands the number of outpatient clinics to 28

It has been working for months, and that is why the users who were waiting for a consultation this Monday in the new building of the General Hospital of Lanzarote, have been surprised by the stir of the flashes and the cameras. And it is that, although for some people it was the second and third time that they entered this building, the Minister of Health has officially inaugurated the 28 new external consultations of the General Hospital of Lanzarote, which belong to the third and last phase of the expansion and remodeling works of the hospital center.

Together with the president of the Cabildo, Inés Rojas, the mayor of Arrecife, María Isabel Déniz, and several doctors from the center, María del Mar Julios has toured the two new floors that concentrate the specialty rooms. The need for this expansion responds, according to what they have explained, to the "population increase that Lanzarote has suffered".

The new building has allowed to centralize all the specialties in a single space, since until now they were distributed by different health centers of the island and has meant a "relief" for many users who had to travel to Las Palmas to go to consultation of certain specialties.

At the end of this "ambitious project", as María del Mar Julios has described it, which has involved an investment of almost 65 million euros and which will end in 2008, "the hospital will have grown not only in square meters but will have doubled its capacity to serve more people". In the coming months, "four new operating rooms, the kitchen, a new emergency service and one more floor" will be inaugurated, since the works are being carried out in phases, "which also allows them to be put into use as they are being completed".
