The schools of the municipality of Tías have joined this Monday morning to the celebration of the Canary Islands Day. In this sense, the students of the Alcalde Rafael Cedrés School of Early Childhood and Primary Education have carried out musical performances in the facilities of the Tías Wrestling arena, next to the municipal sports center.

The Councilor for Education of the Tías City Council, Aroa Pérez, has been present in these activities where the parents of these nearly 800 schoolchildren from Tías have performed several exhibitions of typical Canarian dances. The director of the school, David García, dressed in the traditional clothing of the island of La Graciosa, has been the host of the entire celebration that has filled the stands of the Tías wrestling arena.

In parallel this Monday, the eve of Canary Islands Day, the schoolchildren and the educational community of the Mácher-La Asomada and Concepción Rodríguez Artiles schools, in Puerto del Carmen, have also joined the celebration of Canary Islands Day.

The entire municipality of Tías will intensely experience the celebration of Canary Islands Day, an event that this year coincides within the events for the 50th Anniversary of La Tiñosa and Puerto del Carmen as a tourist area. The Culture and Tourism Councils of the City Council have announced that more than 20 different activities are scheduled for the celebration of the Day of Autonomy of the Canary Islands.

The central events of Canary Islands Day that the Government group (PP and CC) have scheduled will take place this Tuesday, a holiday in the Canary Islands Archipelago. The Department coordinated by the Deputy Mayor and Councilor for Culture and Tourism, Amado Jesús Vizcaíno, has highlighted the exhibition on the 50th Anniversary of La Tiñosa and Puerto del Carmen, which will be exhibited in the arrivals hall of terminal 1 of the Lanzarote Airport. The exhibition will be inaugurated at 10:30 a.m. with the interventions of the Tías authorities and the director of the Lanzarote airport, Manuel Vinagre. Apart from it, visitors will be able to enjoy a folkloric exhibition.

Also within the celebration of Canary Islands Day, La Tiñosa will host the first bowling tournament this Tuesday at 11 a.m., while an hour later a gymkhana will be held, and later a craft and gastronomy fair will be opened to the public. At 4:00 p.m. a jolatero regatta will take place in the El Poril area, in front of the port of La Tiñosa.

Canarian wrestling will be the protagonist of the celebrations


In parallel, the Plaza de El Varadero in Puerto del Carmen will host exhibitions and musical performances, in which the Guágaro Group, the Gaida Group, and the Parranda Los Gurfines son los del Puerto will participate. The closing of the day will be at 8:00 p.m. with the performance of the musical group El Pavón. The square will also host several workshops and exhibitions on the preparation of roasted millet and gofio, and the creation of Canarian mojos so that residents and tourists can familiarize themselves with these sauces and dishes of Canarian gastronomy.

The vernacular sport, Canarian wrestling, will have its appointment on Wednesday, May 31, with a series of workshops on Playa Grande, starting at 5:00 p.m. The Plaza de El Varadero will also be the place where, with the collaboration of the Filmoteca Canaria, the film Mararía will be screened at 9:00 p.m.; work by Canarian filmmaker Antonio Betancort, and interpreted by the Lanzarote actress Goya Toledo, and Carmelo Gómez, in the role of Doctor Fermín, resident in the town of Femés.

On June 1, the film Manos will be screened, which narrates the creation of the network of Art, Culture and Tourism Centers of the Cabildo de Lanzarote.

On Friday, June 2 at 7:00 p.m., there will be an exhibition of Canarian wrestling and a fight between the Unión Sur de Tías and Unión Sur Yaiza teams. At 8:00 p.m., on Playa Grande in Puerto del Carmen, the Copa Fundación Bankia will be held, with the wrestling teams from Tías against Unión Sur Yaiza.
