Mother of autistic child denounces "lack of empathy" that Educational Inspection has with her son

The mother of an 11-year-old autistic child denounces "the lack of empathy" that Education has with her family situation by "not providing sufficient means" for the development of her son's education.

The child attends a school in San Bartolomé, where "he does not have an assistant" to help him with daily tasks, since "he is not used to working alone, when he arrives at school he gets frustrated and does not take the exams". He gets help from "a specialized teacher", but only "three hours a week."

"They have been asking for it for several years," the mother acknowledges. Despite the situation, the school "is overwhelmed", due to "the need for personnel", which "Education does not give it."

The mother can't take it anymore, she confesses that "I have had total involvement with him at home" and "always in contact with the school." "What I did was send videos of how the child worked at home", but now Education "has forbidden giving the email to keep in contact with the school", she says.

"I want my son to be able to have a normal life"

What she demands is "an opportunity to support my son to get ahead", without letting "him fail out of Primary school", since "he only has two years left to finish it". She asks for it so that "he can have a normal life". Now that he is in a course with "more extensive tasks".

She does not understand that the educational center has "suspended my son" and cannot "enter with him when there are exams", thus having "the doors closed", she confesses.

She has gone to Educational Inspection on several occasions but the answer has been clear: "they have told me to put up with it." That "they were not going to give me an assistant, that was what there was", she says resignedly. That there is currently an "overcrowding of children", and "they are overwhelmed". All this, "due to lack of budget."

"You have to take the initiative to go out and collect signatures"

She tells us that there are up to "60 families with autistic children" and many of them "have contacted me". She also recognizes that it is necessary "to take the initiative to go out and collect signatures". Finally, she claims that "families together with associations must support each other."
