The Gender Violence Victim Assistance Service in Lanzarote received 128 calls in July

With the addition of this month, there have already been 8,535 alerts received in the Archipelago in this service in the first 7 months of the year, 12% more than last year.

The Gender Violence Victim Assistance Service 1-1-2 of the Canary Islands has registered 128 calls for gender violence in Lanzarote. In the entire Archipelago, 1,607 calls were recorded, 18.42% more than in the same month last year.

This service, financed by the Canary Islands Institute for Equality (ICI), has reported that 75% of the aggressors were the partner or ex-partner, 2% a child, the rest were parents (1.12%), siblings (0.93%), friends (0.87%) or strangers (1.24%).

In addition, in the entire Archipelago, 83 women stated that they had a disability. With the addition of this month, there have already been 8,535 alerts received in this service in the first 7 months of the year, 12% more than last year.

Regarding the type of violence, 45% of the calls were alerts for physical violence, 40% non-physical violence, 3% violence with sexual assault, the rest were coordination and consultation calls.

In the particular case of Lanzarote, the emergency calls, with imminent danger for the victim, were 77; the calls to request information were 21; and the urgent calls were about thirty.

In the case of the entire Archipelago, the emergency calls were 897 (56% of the total) and the emergency devices of the island councils (DEMA) were mobilized on 223 occasions, which forced the sheltering of 39 women and 17 daughters and sons who needed to be protected from their abuser.

The alerts received also forced the mobilization of 861 police resources and 75 health resources.

42% of the alerts were made by the victim herself, 25% were accidental callers, 4% by someone in the family, 6% were referred from the 016 telephone, and 3% by the Atenpro surveillance service.

By age, 22 were under 18 years old (almost double that of last year, when 12 were registered); 345 from 18 to 35 years old (278 last year); 411 from 36 to 55 years old (309 last year); 103 from 56 to 75 years old (71 calls the previous year) and 12 calls from women over 76 years old (8 last year).

This telephone assistance service, financed by the Canary Islands Institute for Equality (ICI) is provided from the operational rooms of the Coordinating Center for Emergencies and Security, CECOES 1-1-2, throughout the territory of the Autonomous Community of the Canary Islands, 24 hours a day and 365 days a year.
