With the vocation of "creating an archipelago of personalities" to rescue the history of Lanzarote, the tenth editorial collection of the César Manrique Foundation was presented this Thursday. A research and dissemination project with which, through the study of the stories of prominent figures in the evolution of the island, to delve into the local culture of what is today the society of Lanzarote.

"Islands of Memory" is the title of the collection, which according to the director of activities of the FCM, Fernando Gómez Aguilera, responds both to the claim that "this island also has memory although many times it is not explicit and we do not have access because we have been subjected to research deficiencies"; as to unravel the isolation of "each of the characters or episodes that are going to be investigated because they are a closed island that, even containing a large part of the island's memory, we do not know it".

The Foundation is presented in this project as a mediator and stimulator with which they intend to motivate young researchers to delve into the history of Lanzarote. For this reason, the first five publications will be carried out by the young journalists Gregorio Cabrera and Mario Ferrer, the historian Félix Delgado, the Culture coordinator of the Cabildo, José Betancort and the professor and historian, Francisca Perera.

These researchers and writers will delve into the lives of unique characters such as the writer Miguel Pereyra and the journalist Gullermo Topham, of whom the book is scheduled to be published in 2008. And between 2009 and 2010 the narrations around the life of the photographer Gabriel Fernández, the doctor José Molina Orosa and the teacher Nieves Toledo will see the light of the pen and the study of these young collaborators, in order to know "what we were, what we are, and what we could be, but also what we are never going to be; and from there our collective imagination will emerge", said Fernando Gómez Aguilera.

This is one of the activities included in the 2007 agenda, on the occasion of the celebration of the fifteen years of life of the César Manrique Foundation, which on previous occasions has presented other editorial collections in a commitment to deepen the study of local culture.
