The César Manrique Foundation (FCM) and Correos presented this Wednesday the commemorative postage stamp issued on the occasion of the centenary of the artist's birth. The presentation, which was attended by the director of the FCM, Fernando Gómez Aguilera, the director of Philately of Correos, Modesto Fraguas, and the president of the Island Council, María Dolores Corujo; took place in the José Saramago room of La Plazuela in Arrecife.

The postage stamp issued by Correos is integrated by a block sheet in diptych format that, when opened, in one of its blades, shows a fragment of the Lanzarote mural, painted by the artist in 1953, which synthetically and symbolically captures scenes of the landscape, life and activities of the rural and marine world typical of Lanzarote, by the hand of a modern and colorful figuration. The mural is currently exhibited in the Taro room of the FCM headquarters, after being restored after almost fifty years without being shown to the public.

On the other hand, a photograph of César Manrique leaning on a volcanic stone is reproduced, as well as the phrase: "Lanzarote is pure magic? mystery. Clean, insolent and naked beauty. Constant lesson. Its unknown and profound nature is aware of the great spectacle it offers" (César Manrique, c. 1992), with which the FCM and Correos wanted to pay tribute to the island where the artist was born and to which he dedicated a good part of his life and work.
