The Lanzarote Diabetes Association once again organized the camp for children suffering from this disease, which this year took place at the Haría School Residence from June 29 to July 5.

A total of 20 children attended the camp, with the collaboration of the Management of the Canary Health Service, which provided a health team, Dr. Belén González Mohino and nurses Baltasar Gómez, Acela Bonilla and the diabetes education nurse from the General Hospital, Luisa Guillén.

The children were able to enjoy beach days (on the beaches of Órzola and Arrieta) and various excursions and hiking days were also carried out, in addition to various entertainment activities, such as the installation of a trampoline, the organization of a gymkhana, etc.

"It should not be forgotten that in camps for children with diabetes they are taught to live with diabetes and not for diabetes. Every day, in addition to the activities mentioned, they have been given workshops with content specific to the disease, with the theme of how to maintain good self-control, healthy eating, how to calculate carbohydrate rations or how to inject insulin correctly", pointed out from the camp management.

The association also wanted to thank the collaboration of the participating institutions, such as the Cabildo de Lanzarote (Department of Health), Canary Health Service (Management of Health Services of Lanzarote and Primary Care Directorate), the Haría City Council, the Bayer, BD, Lifescan and Menarini laboratories, as well as the coordination of social workers, both from Lanzarote and Fuerteventura, Marisa Martín, Sixto Trujillo and Estrella Trujillo.
