The cleaning of the Alespa Hotel collects 12,000 kilos of garbage

At eight in the morning, cleaning technicians from a company hired by the Department of Health arrived at Calle Real. After evaluating the area and protecting themselves with special suits and masks, they proceeded to enter the Alespa Hotel. The objective was to clean this old building, which had been the subject of criticism from merchants and residents of the area and the scene of the report that the program "Callejeros" broadcast about drug addiction in Arrecife.

The cleaning technicians had a difficult task ahead of them, since the property stored a huge amount of garbage inside, due to the occupation that was taking place by drug addicts and homeless people. Specifically, they collected 12,000 kilos of garbage, including mattresses, syringes, spoiled food and even bags of new clothes without using.

The current inhabitants of the Alespa Hotel have found another location, according to Lolina Curbelo, councilor of Social Services of the Arrecife City Council, since she affirms that it is very difficult to work with them. An elderly person was also found at the site. From the capital Consistory they explain that this person is registered in Tinajo and that the procedures are already being initiated to relocate this elderly person to their municipality of origin.

The property has also been closed to prevent drug addicts and homeless people from concentrating in the place again, and to try to prevent the images that the cameras of 'Cuatro' showed to all of Spain from being repeated in that area, in a report that reflected the worst face of Arrecife.
