Puerto del Carmen ended its carnivals this Sunday "successfully" with a day dedicated to the whole family in the Plaza del El Varadero, in which there were events for children, youth and the elderly.
For the first time, the Tías City Council planned a children's parade with groups of children, which took place through the interior streets of La Tiñosa. An animated dinosaur and its baby, symbolizing the movie 'Jurassic Park', opened the children's procession in these carnivals dedicated to cinema. The 'small parade' began on Los Afrechos street and continued along Teide until it ended in Plaza del Varadero, packed with residents and tourists.
Following in the parade, and in this order, were the Sur Caliente tiñosera Comparsa, the Chimbay batucada, both from the municipality of Tías, the Retoñitos children's murga and the Afilarmónica Las Revoltosas (from San Bartolomé), and the Noveleros children's murga, the Woman Batuca batucada, and the Chau-Chau and Intoxicaditos children's murgas, from Arrecife.
After the children's carnival, the Plaza de El Varadero remained lively until the afternoon with the carnival meeting for the elderly of Lanzarote, promoted by the Social Services areas of each City Council on the Island, and the Day Carnival with performances by Pepe Benavente and the musical group Salvapantallas.
The mayor of Tías, Pancho Hernández, who this Sunday was characterized with the clothing of his "soul" team, Atleti, enjoyed this day together with the deputy mayor, Amado Jesús Vizcaíno, and the councilor for Festivities, Francisco Javier Aparicio. Several councilors from the Tías government group, all in disguise, also participated in this recreational day that brought an end to the Tías carnivals, which, according to the City Council, have been characterized this year "by success and high public participation."
