The users of the Tinguafaya Association have been the protagonists of the charity play 'Lanzarote, Island of Volcanoes'. A play that was staged this Thursday, June 20, at 7:00 p.m., at the Arrecife Civic Center.
The benefits of this performance will be borne by the Leisure and Free Time and Family Respite Program for children and young people with disabilities developed by Tinguafaya. In addition to this performance, local artists and groups have also joined this solidarity afternoon with various performances and surprises that took place after the theatrical staging.
The director of the Tinguafayito Theater group, Samuel Espinosa, explained that the story that has been represented is based on respect for the ancestors of the Island of Lanzarote and their way of taking advantage of the riches of the land and the sea to obtain food. "We have chosen body expression, letting ourselves be carried away by the sounds of the Island to transmit that respect for the cultures and landscapes that exist on Earth is important and that nothing and no one is above them," explained Espinosa and pointed out that "Disability is nothing more than the ability to overcome limitations and to do so with enthusiasm" in the presentation of the theater.
For his part, the president of the Tinguafaya Association, Luis Navarro, thanked the monitors and volunteers who work with these children and young people for the development of the initiative and all the collaborators of the same who will make it possible for the NGO to continue developing this Program that "facilitates the normalization and well-being of people with physical, mental and sensory disabilities, promoting leisure and free time activities and family respite".
Navarro specified that during the year this Leisure and Family Respite Program welcomes about twenty users, and now many young people are joining it in view of the summer season, so they require not only reinforcing the volunteer work to care for all the children and young people who will join in the coming months, but also hiring more monitors and care staff. Through this program, Tinguafaya develops activities such as hippotherapy, sports activities, computer science, outings and excursions, crafts, swimming pool and cooking workshops, among other activities.
