The 8M Lanzarote Feminist Platform has denounced "the absence of an annual program by the institutions aimed at contributing to a cultural change and social values, which favors feminist awareness as an unavoidable measure in the fight against gender violence".
"The mobilizations and acts on the indicated days fall into a broken sack if they are not accompanied by acts, activities or days throughout the year that help reverse the patriarchal system that sustains this type of violence," he says.
Likewise, the group criticizes "the almost non-existent activity programmed on the occasion of 25N by the institutions" and wants to convey "a reflection on the meaning and political utility of the few actions that have been held".
Specifically, about the race organized last Saturday, he points out that, as it has been celebrated "and isolated from other types of actions, it is disfigured as an awareness element".
"25N is a day in which we remember that we are in a position to fight against gender violence as a society. It is not a festive day, it is a day to remember the murdered and to continue fighting this violence through acts and activities with political effectiveness. Women not only need minutes of silence and solidarity races. We demand measures and public policies," the group says.
An "inefficient" attitude of institutions such as the Bar Association
Similarly, the platform denounces "the insufficiency of human and material resources in the institutions competent in matters of gender violence".
"This lack of material and human resources has meant that several women victims of this violence have come to our platform to request help, support or advice," says the feminist movement, which states that "in this care process, women have expressed experiences characterized, in some cases, by an inefficient performance by the corresponding institutions".
One of those institutions, according to the group, is the Lanzarote Bar Association, of which it affirms "that through its lawyers and official lawyers it has not been able to provide specialized legal assistance in this type of cases, which was communicated to the institution itself by the Platform without obtaining any response".
"There is nothing to celebrate"
"We insist, gender violence is fought with public policies aimed at achieving a substantial change in the economic, social and cultural structures of society, with effective protection for women, with budgetary allocation. The murders are the maximum expression of a violence that is systemic and inherent to the patriarchal society in which we live, but not the only one. They kill us, but they also rape us, attack us, harass us, pay us less for the same work, we cannot occupy the public space in equal conditions as men, we mostly carry the reproductive and unpaid work, and we suffer to a greater extent the effects of economic crises, unemployment or cuts in public services," indicates the 8M Lanzarote Feminist Platform
For all this, the group points out that it does not aspire "to have a good commemorative day with the representative figures of the institutions". "We want solutions, public policies that contribute to keeping us alive and free, and we want it now. There is nothing to celebrate", he concludes.
