The town of Femés celebrated this Saturday the procession in honor of San Marcial del Rubicón, whose image was received with cheers and applause as soon as it crossed the portico of the church. The processional retinue was headed by the Municipal Music Band of Yaiza, directed by Professor Giovani Noda, followed by the image of the saint and the retinue formed by the parish priest, authorities and parishioners, who made a tour of the surroundings.
Upon returning to the church, the members of the Rubicón Folklore Group of Yaiza offered the patron saint the most representative of Lanzarote folklore with rhythms of isas, folias, seguidillas and malagueñas, all of them highly applauded by the public present. Next, the image of San Marcial del Rubicón was led back inside the church to cheers.
Before the procession, residents of Femés and other parts of the island had attended the mass presided over by the parish priest of Yaiza and archpriest of Lanzarote, Sixto Álvarez, which began at 7:00 p.m. The religious celebration was accompanied by the Municipal Choir of Yaiza, directed by Professor Nuvi Tavio, who was in charge of interpreting the songs corresponding to such a special anniversary.
The big day of San Marcial coincided this year with the 200th anniversary of the constitution of the Parish of Femés in the year 1818, which years later was united to the current Parish of Nuestra Señora de Los Remedios de Yaiza. In addition, it was the 614th anniversary of the creation of the Diocese of the Canary Islands, erected on July 7, 1404 in the Rubicón, with a cathedral dedicated to San Marcial.
