National Police agents have arrested in Canary Islands a Primary Care doctor as the alleged perpetrator of several sexual assault offenses against four patients, between seventeen and nineteen years old during consultations at a health center in Los Realejos, in the north of Tenerife.
The investigation began after complaints filed by several patients who went to the doctor to receive information related to different contraceptive methods, according to the National Police.
Unjustified touching and cytologies without nursing assistance
According to the statements collected, the detainee claimed to be part of the Sexual Education and Sexually Transmitted Infection Prevention Unit, taking advantage of this circumstance to perform "unjustified touching under the excuse of carrying out gynecological and breast examinations" on them.
Likewise, the agents verified that the investigated person performed cytologies on patients in his own office, late in the afternoon and without the presence of any Nursing staff to assist him, despite the existence of a specialized unit for this type of test at the center.
According to the complainants, the doctor did not provide clinical reports of said examinations, limiting himself to verbally indicating that the results were correct.
The investigation remains open
Police investigations have so far identified four victims, all between 17 and 19 years old, although the investigation remains open, with more victims not being ruled out.
The detainee has been placed at the disposal of the competent Judicial Authority.
The National Police reiterates its commitment to security and the fight against gender violence and sexual assaults, recalling the importance of reporting any incident of this nature.
