The Ministry of Tourism and Employment of the Government of the Canary Islands continues to reinforce its commitment to the improvement of tourist spaces in Lanzarote through an investment of 1.5 million euros. Of these, a total of 635,000 euros are allocated to the modernization and conditioning of various infrastructures in the beaches of Costa Teguise and other coastal areas of the municipality.
The Minister of Tourism and Employment of the Government of the Canary Islands, Jéssica de León, and the CEO of the public company Gestión de Proyectos Turísticos (Gesprotur), Ignacio Solana, visited the municipality together with the mayor of Teguise, Olivia Duque, and the first deputy mayor and councilor for Tourism, Beaches, and Urban Planning of the Teguise City Council, Rita Hernández, to learn firsthand about the actions carried out within the project called ‘Improvement of Tourist Infrastructures of the Municipality’.
The works contemplate three main lines of intervention aimed at improving safety, accessibility and public services in tourist areas, among them, the improvement of infrastructures destined for the lifeguard and rescue service on different beaches of Costa Teguise, through the installation of new surveillance posts, masts, flags and informative signage adapted to tourist quality and safety standards.
On the other hand, the repair and conditioning of the public toilets located on the beaches of Las Cucharas, Playa Bastián and Playa Jablillo is being developed, thus improving the provision of basic services to residents and visitors. Finally, the renovation of pedestrian walkways, accesses, railings and foot showers on different beaches of Costa Teguise, in addition to the installation of new pergolas and vertical signage.
De León highlighted that "these actions will reinforce the quality of tourist spaces, promoting a safer, more accessible, and sustainable experience for residents and tourists who enjoy the Teguise coastline." Furthermore, he added that "with Gesprotur, hand in hand with the Teguise City Council, we are remodeling the entire area of trails, also providing more green areas for residents, in addition to other actions that we are coordinating with the council." Likewise, he thanked the mayor and the councilor for Tourism for their involvement in improving not only the tourist area but also the residential area.
For their part, the mayor of Teguise, Olivia Duque, thanked the involvement of the Regional Executive's Ministry of Tourism and Gesprotur in an investment that will allow for the continued improvement of tourist infrastructures and public spaces in the municipality. In this regard, she highlighted actions such as the rehabilitation of trails and green areas, the improvement of access and services at the beaches, the renovation of elements related to safety and rescue, as well as the recovery of different areas of the Costa Teguise coastline.
Duque also underlined the importance of collaboration between administrations to promote strategic projects, which "contribute to reinforcing the quality, accessibility, and sustainability of one of Lanzarote's main tourist hubs".
