The municipality of Yaiza celebrated the International Day of the Elderly last Saturday, October 1, with the participation of one hundred and sixty residents and activities such as an excursion through Dolores, La Geria and the Volcano Route, -in the Timanfaya National Park-, a lunch and other cultural activities.
The mayor of Yaiza, Óscar Noda, has guaranteed "the continuity of the care program for older people."
For her part, the Councilor for Social Dynamization, Águeda Cedrés, has detailed that "training and leisure activities will be maintained, because the objective is for them to feel happy and supported."
Music, theater and photography
The mariachi La Llorona and the magician José Ángel participated in the activities carried out during the afternoon, which took place in the El Molino cultural center. In addition, the elderly participated in theater workshops.
Likewise, the space also exhibited the photographic exhibition that shows portraits of thirteen elders representing each of the towns in the municipality, "images in various formats captured in their homes by the artists Orlando Almeida and Monso Pérez that interpret the experience and effort of a lifetime dedicated to their families and the progress of Yaiza," said the mayor.
Dolores Fernández from La Degollada, who has just turned 100 years old; Germán Jacinto López from La Geria; Luis Umpiérrez 'El Capitán' from Playa Blanca; Blasina Martín from Maciot; Carmen Marrero from Las Breñas; Teodomiro Medina from Uga; Margarita Melián from Femés; Juan Farray from Puerto Calero; María de Los Remedios 'Maruca' from La Hoya; María Ramírez from Las Casitas; Eustaquio Hernández from Playa Quemada; Matilde Cabrera from Yaiza; and Mateo Martín from El Golfo; are the protagonists of the aforementioned exhibition.
