One hundred residents from different towns in the municipality of Yaiza celebrated the Elder's Day in Playa Blanca this Monday, October 1st, with a party that began at five in the afternoon with a walk along the promenade and the downtown area of the town and continued in the La Aurora cultural center where time passed until ten at night between talks, group dynamics, poetry, snacks and dancing. Councilors from the Yaiza government accompanied the elders on their day of celebration.

The City Council also reminds that throughout the year a "complete" program of healthy leisure activities is carried out for the enjoyment of older residents. "Our elders participate three times a week in maintenance gymnastics, receive weekly literacy and English classes, do crafts and workshops, play Canarian bowls, travel on excursions inside and outside the Islands and are also protagonists of artistic performances in the town festivals", explains the Councilor for Social Dynamization of Yaiza, Omaira UmpiƩrrez. In this way, "they integrate, have fun and stay very active", adds the councilor,

The City Council values "the contribution of elders and the transmission of wisdom to society without forgetting their dedication to loved ones." Yaiza also highlights the support of municipal staff, "always willing to assist the elderly community." The southern Consistory and the Adult Education Center of Lanzarote (CEPA) also encourage the participation of elders in training cycles.
