The unexpected death of Civil Guard Bernardino Coto Carmona this week at his home in the town of La Santa (municipality of Tinajo), in Lanzarote, has caused enormous shock among his family, friends and colleagues of the Benemérita. He was known as Coto and was 58 years old, say residents of La Santa. According to initial indications, he died of natural causes.

A neighbor found him dead at his home last Wednesday, July 12, after he did not answer phone calls from his partner, who was off the island.
Bernardino had been in the reserve for several months and his last destination was at the César Manrique-Lanzarote Airport.

A "very dear" person

Born in the Peninsula, he was very loved in the town of La Santa, where residents highlight his kindness, and among his colleagues. “He had a very good relationship with everyone. Nobody spoke badly of him,” they say. They remember him walking with his dog, a greyhound, and catching waves in La Santa, a hobby to which he planned to dedicate more time after his retirement.
