Festividad en honor a Santa Catalina

The residents of the town of Los Valles celebrated this Monday the big day of the festivities in honor of Santa Catalina the Saint. At 6:30 p.m., the Eucharist began, presided over by the parish priest of Teguise, Matías Gula, and assisted by Miguel Ángel Sosa. The musical group Alborada Peña del Lentisco, led by professor José Cruz, was in charge of enlivening the songs for such a special day, giving it a more festive and lively touch.

After the Eucharist, the image of Santa Catalina toured the streets surrounding the church on the shoulders of the town's residents. Upon arrival, she was received by the musical chords and traditional dances of the members of the Guanapay Folk Group, who offered her the most traditional pieces of Canarian folklore. The celebration ended with a glass of honor that the neighbors happily tasted to combat the prevailing cold of the moment.

The story goes that "the settlers fled in fear from the villages buried in the south of Lanzarote by the volcanic eruptions of 1730-36, seeking a safe place and settled in this place that we know today as Los Valles."
