Personnel from the Lanzarote Security and Emergency Consortium have traveled to South Africa to participate in the world championship of firefighters specializing in extraction and rescue of victims in traffic accidents, the World Rescue Challenge 2018 South Africa, which is being held these days at Atholone Stadium in Cape Town. The tests will end on October 26 and six specialists from Lanzarote are competing, along with 30 teams from 14 countries.
The president of the Cabildo, Pedro San Ginés, who has accompanied the firefighters on this trip, explains in a statement that this team was created "by the initiative of several members of the Consortium Corps who, with their selfless effort and great work, have managed to position themselves, in their short but intense career, as the best team of firefighters specializing in extrication and rescue of victims of traffic accidents at the national level, being directly classified to participate in the World Rescue Challenge 2018".

According to the Cabildo, "the South African world championship is a unique opportunity for the Lanzarote Firefighters Team; where they can acquire and develop knowledge of new techniques and methodologies for the rescue and extraction of victims in traffic accidents from the best specialist firefighters in this category in the world who will meet at this event".
For his part, the president of the Emergency Consortium, Juan Manuel Sosa, recalls that the firefighters intervened in 321 traffic accident actions in 2017 on the island of Lanzarote, being the highest number of actions recorded by this body.

Regarding the so-called "Rescue Meetings" or "Rescue Championships", the Cabido explains that they arose to "exchange the knowledge acquired" among the professionals who have to intervene in an accident and to "put into practice the new maneuvers and rescue techniques and learn the use of new tools, in order to offer the best service to citizens with the aim of achieving zero deaths and minimizing the possible damage suffered by the victim in a traffic accident".
