Lanzarote society also demonstrated this Thursday against gender violence, thus commemorating November 25, International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women.
A march was held that ran along the Royal Street of Arrecife and ended at the Yellow House, where a manifesto was read and flowers were placed on top of the names of the women murdered by their partners.
"Our body and our sexuality are not weapons to destroy the enemy, nor objects of trafficking in the hands of exploiters, nor are they the territory of any religion, nor of solitary or pack rapists", they pointed out in the manifesto.
They also detailed the figures for gender violence in Lanzarote, registering "221 cases in the first six months of 2021", which is "23 percent more than in 2020". Likewise, they also broke down the data on vicarious violence, a term that defines "the damage a father does to his daughters and sons to take revenge on his wife", reaching "43 children since 2013."
In addition to the president of Mararía, Nieves Rosa Hernández, the march was led by authorities such as the president of the Cabildo de Lanzarote, María Dolores Corujo, and the Minister of Social Welfare, Isabel Martín, who held the banner that read: "Forum against gender violence Enough is enough!". Rozalén's song "La puerta violeta" accompanied the concentration.
