Lanzarote Bus workers complete their sixth day of strike: "The boss doesn't even show up at the company"

Intersindical Canaria criticizes that the management continues without sitting down to negotiate, but warns that "the workers continue with the same spirit and the same desire to fight as on the first day"

The indefinite strike of the workers of Lanzarote Bus and all the companies of the group (Guaguas Lanzarote, Jocaba and Guaguas Jocaba) continues its course for the sixth consecutive day, without receiving any response from the company to their demands for the moment. "The boss doesn't even show up at the company and this generates a lot of frustration," says one of those affected, who explains that the workers don't want to talk "for fear of reprisals."

In their opinion, the company thought that the strike would last "two or three days" and has refused to negotiate believing that the employees "would fall apart", given the proximity of the holidays. "Nobody wants to be without Christmas," she says.

In this regard, the wife of one of the workers recalls that for each day of strike they are deducted 50 euros and admits that the situation is becoming "desperate". However, she insists that "this is indefinite" and that they have no intention of returning to work until their demands are met.

"It is the first time that the staff is 100% in agreement, they are all in favor of it being fixed," she emphasizes: "We have to gather strength and continue fighting, let's see if touching the boss's pocket makes her more sensitive to the workers."

The company summons them to a meeting to request more minimum services

For his part, the Secretary of Social Action of the Transport Federation of Intersindical Canaria, José Manuel Moreno, has stated in statements to La Voz that the company "has not said anything officially" since the strike began, and that they have only sent someone to say some things "without any importance."

Last Friday, the management asked them to send the demands in writing, which according to the strike call are based on the elimination of the split shift, the remodeling of the agreement and the increase in salary based on the increase in the CPI, "which has not been revised since 2011."

There, the workers "saw a little light because they thought they were willing to talk", but finally "no meeting was held".

Finally, according to what Intersindical Canaria has made public, this Tuesday they have convened the delegates of the strike committee to a meeting for the first time, but again with a disappointing result. "Instead of approaching the demands, what they have done is say that they want 100% of the services also in the tourist sector, because they say there are two cruise ships on the island," they lament from the union, which recalls that a technician from the Ministry of Education already set the minimum services for school transport at 100%.

In addition, they denounce that "supposedly the management has hired, already declared the strike, two workers to try to get the buses to work, which is understood to be manifestly illegal." Likewise, they maintain that "they have also subcontracted other companies to carry out the discretionary service", although they celebrate that "the workers of those companies are beginning to show solidarity with these colleagues in the sector and are refusing to carry out these services".

"The workers continue with the same spirit and the same desire to fight as on the first day," they warn from Intersindical.
