La Caja Chica's programming opens with the show The Queen of Colors

Music, humor, puppets, multimedia projections, characters and animated dolls, dance, stories and lots of color and fun. These are some of the elements promised by the 2008 edition of La Caja Chica, the cycle of theatrical and scenic activities for the little ones organized by the Social Work of La Caja de Canarias and the Culture Service of the Cabildo de Lanzarote.

For this year 2008, there will be three events that the little ones will be able to enjoy during May, and that will take place on the first Fridays of the month, specifically on the 2nd at the Municipal Theater of Tías, and the 9th and 16th at the one in San Bartolomé.

The program will be opened by "The Queen of Colors", a show that mixes Chinese shadows with puppets and new technologies. It is a story inspired by an old German oral legend that tells how a young queen, tired of living in a land dominated by the color white, decides to incorporate colors into her kingdom, and it is at that moment when she realizes that colors have their own life.

The German company Erfreuliches Theater, with a long history backed by its success in half of Europe, has taken this adaptation of a popular German tale to numerous stages. Erfreuliches Theater successfully combines the tradition of puppets with new technologies, mixing traditional string or glove puppets with projections, video, music and open puppets. A waste of imagination, taken care of down to the smallest detail, for the enjoyment not only of children but also of adults who retain their desire to dream and have fun.

Children and adults can see it on Friday, May 2, at 6:00 p.m., at the Teatro de Tías. The show is recommended for children between 4 and 6 years old. Tickets can be purchased at the CIC El Almacén and at the Tías Town Hall for 8 euros.

Upcoming performances

The program will continue the following weeks with the children's musical "Los Rocanrolitos", which will be performed on May 9, at 6:00 p.m., at the Teatro de San Bartolomé. Admission costs three euros and can be purchased at the CIC El Almacén and in the Culture Department of the San Bartolomé City Council. "Los Rocanrolitos" are strange beings, half children half elves, who claim to be the true creators of rock'n'roll.

And on Friday, May 16, at 6:00 p.m., and also at the Teatro de San Bartolomé, the Madrid company la Ratonera Teatro will stage another musical, in this case "Carlota can't sleep". Carlota and the magician Topete, protect children from the evil lords of nightmares, so that they can fall asleep without problems. Tickets can be purchased for 8 euros at the CIC El Almacén and in the Culture Department of the San Bartolomé City Council.
