José Antonio González, former councilor of San Bartolomé and a reference point for the left and environmentalism in Lanzarote, has passed away.

Former San Bartolomé councilor José Antonio González and current member of Podemos passed away this Tuesday at the Molina Orosa Hospital in Arrecife at the age of 59 due to an illness. González, who in recent decades has been linked to left-wing parties in Lanzarote, also stood out for his role in environmental associations such as El Guincho and in social movements.

In this legislature, González worked with the Podemos group in the Cabildo, although he had been on leave for months. The politician began to participate in this formation since it began to be implemented in Lanzarote, although before he had belonged to Alternativa Ciudadana and Izquierda Unida.

For these two formations he was a councilor in San Bartolomé, standing out for his opposition work in the municipality during the mandate of the former mayor of CC Miguel Martín, against whom he filed several complaints and who is currently awaiting trial for corruption.
