Jesús Soto, artistic master at the Art, Culture and Tourism Centers of the Cabildo of Lanzarote, received this Tuesday morning, coinciding with the seventh anniversary of his death, a floral offering in which his relatives, the authorities of the Island and a representation of the workers of the Centers participated.

The president of the Cabildo of Lanzarote, Pedro San Ginés, together with the first vice president, Fabián Martín; the director of the CACTs, Pedro Fraile; the widow of Jesús Soto, his relatives, and a representation of the workers participated in the floral offering, which took place at 11 a.m. next to his grave in the Arrecife cemetery.

The second vice president of the Cabildo and managing director of the Art, Culture and Tourism Centers of the Cabildo, Astrid Pérez, highlighted the creative and silent work of the master Soto, adopted son of Lanzarote and direct collaborator of César Manrique.

But what catapulted him to fame, consecrating him as an artist, was without a doubt the adaptation that Soto made of the Cueva de los Verdes in 1964. He designed its interior conditioning, illuminated a route of about two kilometers in length and gave it light and color.

Jesús María del Carmen Soto Morales was born in Fuerteventura in 1928. When he was very young he moved to Lanzarote. His good work led the Cabildo to hire him as an artistic master.

The genius settled permanently on the Island, married and had eight daughters. Until his last days he lived in the Parque las Salinas, an emblematic area of the capital, witness to his comings and goings in the course of his very fruitful career. In 2002 he was elected Adopted Son, dying on May 4, 2003.
