Hundreds of people joined this past Thursday night the vigil promoted by Lanzarote with Palestine in support of the Gazan people and to condemn the genocide that the Government of Israel, led by Benjamin Netanyahu, is perpetrating in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank

The night march with candles departed from the Casa Amarilla, the old headquarters of the Cabildo of Lanzarote, on Calle Real de Arrecife and surrounded the Charco de San Ginés and part of the Avenida Marítima of Arrecife.

This concentration occurs after citizen mobilizations managed to stop several sections of the Cycling Tour of Spain in recent weeks, even forcing the sports event to conclude at a shorter distance than planned.

“Fortunately, thanks to citizen action, the impact of the Global Sumud flotilla and the opposition to the participation in the Tour of Spain of a cycling team that flies the Israeli flag, among many others, both public opinion and governments have become aware of what the majority position is: the genocide must stop and Netanyahu and his people must receive the punishment that a crime against humanity deserves,” defended the Lanzarote con Palestina collective in the call for this concentration.

The Independent International Commission of Inquiry on the Occupied Palestinian Territory, including East Jerusalem and Israel, presented a report three days ago informing the United Nations Human Rights Council that the Israeli government and its forces are committing a "genocide" in the occupied Gaza Strip.

In this sense, the Secretary General of Amnesty International, Agnès Callamard, stressed that "there is no time for excuses: the evidence of Israel's genocide continues to increase and the international community cannot claim that it did not know."
