German filmmaker Werner Herzg will return to Lanzarote fifty-one years after filming his second feature film on the island. He will do so on October 23, which is when the program of activities of the project "Werner Herzog: filming a strange planet" will begin, which was presented this Thursday at the Center for Contemporary Culture of Barcelona (CCCB)
Herzog will accompany a group of 50 international filmmakers for 11 days in the search for their own vision of cinema. Under the guidance of the prestigious German filmmaker, each participant will go through all the phases of making a film, from the birth of the idea to the exhibition of the finished piece. The program will have an artistic residency format in which the participants will live together and collaborate in the creation of fifty individual pieces.
“What I do is listen to them, find out what their problems and concerns are when facing a film. It is not about giving a master class, but about producing something, creating something together, and I will make sure that in these 10 days they make a film of between 5-10 minutes and that they learn more than in the years they have spent in a film school,” said the German filmmaker.
In the context of this project, the Tenique Cultural Association and the Lanzarote Film Festival have organized "a retrospective throughout the month of October" and are preparing a unique meeting with the German director that will take place at the Insular Theater "El Salinero" in Arrecife on October 30 at 7:00 p.m. For an hour and a half, Werner Herzog, author of emblematic films such as Aguirre, Fitzcarraldo or Inside the Volcano, “will respond to various linguistic and audiovisual stimuli in order to reflect on his life and work.”
“This is a unique opportunity to listen to one of the most important directors of the last decades talk about his work and his way of approaching the world,” said Javier Fuentes Feo, president of the Tenique Cultural Association and director of the Lanzarote Film Festival.
This meeting is in collaboration with the Cabildo de Lanzarote.
