Emergency and emergency technician Benjamín Nieves will be the announcer of the San Ginés festivities, which this year will be celebrated in an atypical way. And it is that, before the coronavirus pandemic, there will only be a proclamation and the traditional mass in honor of the patron saint, on the 25th.
Nieves, former Red Cross volunteer and health caretaker, is currently a training technician for the Canary Islands Health Service, collaborates with the Lanzarote Security and Emergency Consortium and several NGOs and has been very involved in the health crisis with the campaign 'Now if you take care of yourself, you take care of us all', with which he has toured organizations, associations and groups to inform about the importance of prevention.
"I want to convey the work we do and focus it on the citizens," Nieves said in statements to La Voz, where he pointed out that his proclamation will also be a tribute "to the people who have been on the front line" during the Covid-19 pandemic. "It is going to be a very simple thing but that brings citizens closer, that citizens understand why," added the announcer of the San Ginés festivities.
The proclamation will take place on August 24, at 8:30 p.m., while the patron saint's mass will be held on the 25th, at 12:00 p.m.
Jordi Vispo and Marcial Álvarez, authors of the poster
As for the poster of the festivities, it has been prepared "selflessly" by Jordi Vispo Rodríguez and Marcial Álvarez Hernández, being able to appreciate in it several images that correspond to various acts of previous editions, such as the traditional performance of the parrandas or the tests held during these dates.
The Councilor for Festivities, Culture and Local Police of Arrecife, José Alfredo Mendoza, has highlighted the attitude of both authors. "I want to express my most sincere gratitude to Jordi Vispo and Marcial Álvarez, who, without expecting anything in return, have collaborated with us in everything necessary so that this peculiar edition of San Ginés 2020 has its poster."
