Chronicles of the Conquest of the Canary Islands

Gadifer de la Salle and Juan de Bethencourt are two names linked to the Canary history. Both participated in the Norman conquest of the archipelago. Now, five centuries later, the historians Eduardo Aznar, Dolores Corbella, Berta Picos and Antonio Tejera have elaborated a book, titled "Le Canarien. Portrait of two worlds", that gathers the chronicles of this conquest from the point of view of the two captains, and that has been presented this Thursday in Lanzarote.

The chronicles of Gadifer, discovered in 1404, relate the day to day of the contention, while the testimony of Bethencourt continues with the chronicle of the exploration of the islands and the political organization of them. "They are different works", with divergent interests and represent respective allegations in favor of one or another captain", the authors have pointed out.

"Le Canarien. Portrait of two worlds" has been edited by the Institute of Canary Studies, with the sponsorship of the Government of the Canary Islands, the Mapfre Guanarteme Foundation and the Councils of Lanzarote and Fuerteventura.
