The person awarded the Ajey Prize for Craftsmanship has been the cooper, Felipe de León Rocío, born in San Bartolomé in 1923, who, this Thursday, August 16, received the Ajey Prize for craftsmanship as one of the last coopers still active in all the Canary Islands. He learned the trade from his father, inheriting his workshop and tools, and has been practicing it for more than sixty years.
The NGO "Calor y Café" was also awarded the Ajey Prize for Solidarity Work. This entity, created 11 years ago, is dedicated to the care of all those people and groups who require help such as drug addicts, homeless people, immigrants, among others. It is managed by Sor Ana, the alma mater of the NGO.
Another of the awarded groups were the Bodegas El Grifo, which last July obtained with its wine, El Grifo Canario, the Gold Medal in the most prestigious international competition, organized by the International Wine & Spirits Competition. This wine was the best qualified in its category, among 5,000 wines from 50 different countries.
Likewise, Coalición Canaria also congratulates Muebles Rubicón as the only business adhering to the call for subsidies for the purchase of energy-saving and energy-efficient appliances, within the Energy Saving and Efficiency Plan 2005/2007 of the Government of the Canary Islands, with the aim of encouraging consumers to remove old appliances and replace them with high energy saving and efficiency appliances. According to Coalición Canaria in San Bartolomé, "with this action it has contributed to informing and raising awareness among citizens of the importance of using these devices, as one more grain of sand, for a more ecological and sustainable world".
