The Canary Islands Government Council held this Friday has authorized the extension of the maximum permitted capacities for alert levels 1 and 2, which are the levels in which all the islands are currently located, including Lanzarote.

In general, the maximum capacity allowed in outdoor spaces will again be 100% of what they have established and indoors it is extended to 80%. These measures, which will come into force on the same day of their publication in the BOC, will be applicable until 24 hours on October 31, 2021, "without prejudice to the possibility of extension depending on the epidemiological situation."

The new regulations, however, contemplate some exceptions, relating to public shows - such as cultural or recreational events - and sports activities. In the event that they take place sporadically and in places not usually intended for this, such as demountable or open-air facilities, the capacity may only be 100% if the public remains seated and without consuming food. If they are standing or if they are seated but consuming, it may not exceed 90%.

In addition, if this type of event is held in an enclosed space, the maximum will be 80% of the capacity and food or beverages may not be consumed, nor will standing public be allowed.

As for children's and youth camps outdoors, they will have a maximum capacity of 80% in outdoor spaces with a maximum of 150 participants including the monitor. In activities carried out in enclosed spaces, the maximum capacity will be 60%, with a maximum of 60 people including the monitor.

For federated sports practice, regional or island level, outdoors or indoors and non-federated sports practice outdoors, the maintenance of interpersonal distance of 2 meters should be "ensured" "whenever possible", with mandatory use of the mask. The number of participants will be limited by the specific regulations of each sport. Public capacity will be 100% in open spaces and 80% in closed spaces.

Finally, cultural activity that is not considered mass events and takes place in closed cultural and artistic venues and establishments such as theaters, cinemas, music auditoriums, cultural centers, libraries, concert halls, exhibition halls, museums, exhibition or conference halls or other equipment of a similar nature whose ordinary activity is cultural, the maximum permitted capacity will be 80% of that established

According to the Canary Islands Government, "this modification of the capacities is due to the improvement of the epidemiological indicators, both of accumulated incidence and of those of healthcare capacities." In this regard, they recall that since this Thursday all the islands are at level 1, except Fuerteventura, which remains this week at level 2.
