The sustainable establishments of Asolan, the tourism association of Lanzarote, have joined the solidarity campaign to collect caps to help the family of little Sofía Pérez Hernández, who suffers from the rare disease of Rett syndrome. Sofía's family has been collecting caps for some time to allocate the benefits of this recycling to the acquisition of an adapted car.
Asolan and several tourist complexes integrated in "Sustainable Establishments" have delivered "a huge amount of caps" recycled by tourists and staff of these tourist complexes. To date, according to Sofía Pérez's mother, Yoli Hernández, seven tons of plastic caps have already been collected. The goal in these weeks is to reach the figure of 10 tons.
The event, which was attended by the president of Asolan, Susana Pérez, and several directors of the complexes that have joined this solidarity cause, took place on Tuesday, in the halls of the Hotel Sol Lanzarote, in Matagorda, Puerto del Carmen.
Yoli Hernández, whose daughter studies at the special center of Nuestra Señora de los Volcanes in Tahíche, stressed that for the acquisition of this adapted vehicle for little Sofía, approximately 30 tons of container caps should be collected.
According to Asolan, many people and groups have joined on the island of Lanzarote to recycle and collect these caps that allow Sofía a better life with this adapted vehicle. Her disease, known as Rett Syndrome, is a neurological disorder of genetic origin.
