The Arrecife City Council has announced this Tuesday the program and poster of the San Ginés 2021 Festivities, which will be held from August 20 to 25, although some sporting events, characteristic of them, will begin a week earlier.

The event, held at the Agustín de la Hoz House of Culture, was attended by the Mayor of Arrecife, Ástrid Pérez, the Deputy Mayor and Councilor for Festivities, Alfredo Mendoza, the author and designer of the poster, Miguel Francisco Cabrera, and several members of the local government group.

During the presentation, the name of the town crier was also announced, which had already been advanced this Monday by La Voz de Lanznarote. Thus, the mayor confirmed that it will be the tenor Pancho Corujo, whom she referred to as "a very beloved person on the Island" and "possessor of an extraordinary voice, an outstanding curriculum, great temperance and a simplicity - despite his artistic relevance - without comparison."

The tenor, whose talent led him to obtain a scholarship at the “Reina Sofía” Higher School of Music, debuted at the Las Palmas Opera in 2006, although his first musical steps had been in Santa Cruz de Tenerife. Currently, Pancho Corujo is considered one of the best voices of bel canto, stepping on renowned stages in Italy, Croatia and Chile, as well as the most famous Spanish theaters.

"Serenity" and "passion" in the poster

Regarding the poster for these parties, designed by Miguel Francisco Cabrera, Ástrid Pérez pointed out that the work "arises from the creative capacity of its author, from his way of seeing El Charco, from the feeling that emerges in the treatment he gives to light, from his handling of color, trying to transmit the serenity that characterizes the place and the passion with which the people of Arrecife express ourselves when talking about it.”

From the City Council they emphasize that Cabrera, who has dedicated a large part of his life to the textile sector, "always had a clear plastic and artistic vocation." He specialized in photography since 2003, collaborating with collective exhibitions, the last one “Mirando Arrecife”, held outdoors in 2020. In the words of the author, "the poster symbolizes the calm and tranquility of a day in Arrecife, despite the setbacks of life symbolized by the tangled cape.”

Programming observing health protocols

The San Ginés 2021 Festivities have a program designed for those places where capacity can be controlled, taking small events to each neighborhood of the municipality. Citizens will be able to enjoy children's workshops, films, small concerts, sports competitions. Prior registration is required for the enjoyment of activities, as a formula to guarantee health measures.

“From the Department of Celebrations we wanted to develop a program in accordance with the health situation of the island, with small events that do not lose the essence of the San Ginés Festivities. In addition, we wanted to give prominence to local artists, who have had such a bad time since the pandemic began,” said the Councilor for Celebrations of Arrecife, Alfredo Mendoza.

“Thank the workers, the town crier and the designer of the poster for all the collaboration shown to carry out a program that I am sure will be to everyone's liking, always from responsibility and prudence,” the mayor stressed.
