The Arrecife City Council, through the Department of Social Welfare, managed by Eva de Anta, paid tribute to Agustina Luis Alonso, a resident of the Charco de San Ginés whose life has been linked to the sea, to caring for her family and to social actions.

Tina, 93 years old and of humble origin, "is recognized for being a tireless worker who single-handedly raised her four children", they point out from the City Council. Three of them were on the banks of El Charco this Wednesday night accompanying her. The honoree was a pioneer, in the 50s, in the artisanal preparation of wafers for children, that is, the "jolateros".

For a few months she has been in the nursing home of the Insular Hospital. According to the Council, "those who know her highlight her vitality and her memory capable of storing her life in memories, which she tells in the improvised gatherings of the residence".

It is the first time that the Arrecife City Council has organized a tribute at the request of the neighbors. The mayor of Arrecife, José Montelongo, has assured that the Corporation will continue to carry out these actions "so that society knows and recognizes those citizens who have contributed to the progress of this city".

Eva de Anta, for her part, highlighted "Tina's strong character and her simplicity." She added that, after learning about her story, she admires her for being "an example of love for the sea, dedication to her family and a sign of lucidity, common sense and popular wisdom."

The performances of Beni Ferrer and Amigos de Portonao, put the musical note to the evening.
