Yo Dona magazine, which is distributed as a supplement to the newspaper El Mundo, has once again dedicated a special issue to the "500 most influential Spanish women". And among them, it has included the director of La Voz de Lanzarote, Isabel Lusarreta, along with 20 other media professionals from all over Spain.

"Despite the fact that women are the majority in journalism, they are in the minority in media offices," the report points out. In fact, although it highlights a total of 500 women from different professions, in the space dedicated to journalists, it only refers to 21. Among them are professionals such as Julia Otero, Pepa Bueno, Ángels Barceló, Ana Pastor, Susanna Griso, María Teresa Campos, and Ana Pardo, who direct programs in national media or who are in charge of magazines or newspapers. But the only media outlet in the Canary Islands that appears on that list, and even one of the few written media outlets in Spain, is La Voz de Lanzarote.

As the report points out, the director of this digital newspaper has held the position since 2006, and on previous occasions, she had already been cited in this special issue that Yo Dona magazine produces every year.

A year "without great female conquests" but with "several milestones"

In addition to dedicating a page to media professionals, the special issue of Yo Dona, published last Saturday, dedicates other sections to women who work in different fields, including businesswomen, politicians, artists, designers, members of royalty, judges, prosecutors, and athletes.

"Unfortunately, 2016 has not been a year of great news in terms of female conquests," the report concludes, which still highlights "several milestones." Among them, it emphasizes that the Congress of Deputies is presided over by a woman, that all companies in the IBEX 35 now have a woman on their board, that "a progressive feminization is also being noticed at the top of the judiciary," and that in the technology sector, "they are the majority," and "several of the large digital multinationals, such as Google, Facebook, Ebay, or Kindle, have a woman at the head in our country, as do some of the main technology companies, such as Siemens, HP, IBM, or Microsoft."
